What You Will Learn:
Our pollinators provide critical pollination services for free! Urban residential areas often support 20-30% of Georgia's 540+ wild bee species. Who are these MVPs, what plants and other resources do they need most, and what is our role in conserving these amazing insects? Come join us for a close up look at these bees and other pollinators from the hidden world all around us! Learn some of the ways residential landscapes and other greenspaces can be modified to promote pollinator health.
More About the Presenter (s):
Dr. Braman, Professor Emeritus, began work at the University of Georgia in 1989. Her research focused on the ecology and management of insect pests of turf and ornamental plants. Her studies blend basic and applied components to improve the sustainability and profitability of urban plant production and landscape pest management. Research emphasized two areas: Identifying and increasing the use of pest- resistant and adapted turf and ornamentals and- Integrating natural enemies and alternative control technologies into IPM through enhanced understanding of tritrophic interactions in urban plant systems. Her work also addressed management of invasive and emerging plant pests. Most recently her research and teaching focus has centered around conservation of pollinators and other beneficial arthropods. This is reflected in her most recent publications and invited presentations including a TEDx Atlanta talk in May, 2023 and PNAS podcast/youtube in March 2024. Dr. Braman has produced, with her students, over 200 publications including 164-refereed journal articles and 16 book chapters. As Director of the Center for Urban Agriculture from 2011-2016, she provided leadership in delivery of science- based information to stakeholder groups. Dr. Braman served as Entomology Department Head from June 2016 to May 2025.
